The rebuild is almost complete. Just waiting for the lifters to come in. So far it looks better then the first build I did on the engine 3 years ago. I can't believe it has been that long. I feel a little better that I think about it in years not miles. The cam doesn't have as much lift or duration but give more power across the board.

Looks Awsome, What kind of paint is the green, I'm thinking about using a Dupont Base coat clear coat on my block, hope it sticks!

The heads are D3VE's that had the valves upgraded to 2.19 intake and 1.76 exhaust valve, screw in rocker arm studs, and the air injection bumps ground flat. As for paint you are looking at Plasti-cote Hotrod Green No. 199. The color is worth the stares and comments. Just remember to clean your block really good before you even think about shooting the first pass. You'll get a orange peel effect if there is any grease or oil under the paint. Personally I wash the block with soap and water followed by mineral spirits to dry it then another washing with 100% alcohol to remove any residue left by the mineral spirits.

Mark, Those are some nice bends on the fuel line. After fighting rust constantly, I think painting the valve covers and breather is a better choice too.

Looks way cool, love that color!!! Way to be different!!! Now dont get all in a hurry and skip disassembling those lifters for inspection and cleaning prior to wrapping it all up

The only items on the engine not painted is the average chrome PVC and breather. I went so far as to paint the intake manifold and distributor base with 400 degree aluminum paint. Luckily I can get stainles steel tubing from work without too much of a problem. The only hard part is flaring the ends for AN unions.

Thumbs up

Hey Mark, The engine looks great I bet it makes your heart beat a little faster in anticipation of puttting it back in the cleaned up ready to welcome engine compartment. Did you get the wiring hidden? Did you do anything to the firewall? Looks good!! Not much longer now.

Staying low for now

I didn't do too much to the firewall yet. I was looking at that a few minutes ago thinking about running a solid tube for the vacuum booster instead of the hose. I think I am going to go a little nuts with solid tubing for a few other things as well. I can't run shrink wrap over every square inch of the harness like I was thinking of at first. I need to be able to get to the wires for the tach, dist power, and engine temp for now. I have my mechanical temp gauge probe that I will be installing once I get the speedo and tach I want. I have the panel ready for them but I am waiting for Christmas to see if Santa will drop them off for me.

After a few set backs mainly in the hoist department I finally dropped the engine in today. I still have a bunch of misc connections to make but it only took me a little over and hour to get all the mounts and transmission bolts TQ'd. The flex plate nuts went on without any major headaches and the starter is in place. I had to make a few threaded holes in the front frame cross member to secure the transmission cooler lines to. I have a whopping 2 inches of clearance between the lines and fan belt. Thankfully that is not the worst thing to happen. As I was getting ready to call it a day I was pushing the collaspable cherry picker back in when one of the legs fell forward and dented the driverside fender above the wheel and scrapped the paint off in a few spots. My wife tried to give me a few words of comfort by saying not to worry about it since I am going to be doing body work to it anyways. All I can say is that my panties were is a wad and I wasn't too happy about it. I managed to install the engine without scratching the paint on it or the engine compartment to have that happen. I would gladly swap that if I could. Engine paint is easy to do but a dent isn't.

Tomorrow I plan on installing the radiator, hoses, and the altinator. The lifters keep eluding me though. Not to worry, I'll have them soon enough.
