Anyone ever hear of this not working. In MA we have emissions testing where they plug into this port. The inspection guy said he couldn't run the test because it wasn't reading anything. Anyone have this experience? Thanks.
There is a ground wire that is one side of the loop. By that, if the ground is poor, broken or corroded, you will not have a reading when you plug into the data port.
IF memory serves me correct, you should see a single black wire coming into the port from the back side. Either test that wire for continuity to ground or trace it back to see if it is a ground. If need be, clean or re-new the connection.
Far more likely it's just a blown fuse instead of a ground wire problem. Pin 16 of the OBDII test plug has to supply vehicle power to the scan connection.
On many of the F-series, it's on the same circuit as the cigar lighter. I'll check the EVTM tomorrow and see what they did on the Exploder.
Definately check the fuse. Mine did the same thing. I removed the fuse, checked it over, reinserted it because there was nothing wrong with it, and it has worked great ever since.
