Ok, now I am pissed. My OD has been slipping in my 5R55E, and it just seems to get worse. I decided to give Ford Customer Service a call, and they were zero help. I don't feel that I need to pay to fix this problem when I had nothing to do with it. It started at 35K miles and I now have 40K. I don't exactly have the funds to get this fixed myself. Oh well, I am more or less just ranting.
You ranting because you don't know how to handle your dealer, get a pair !!! You wouldn't have these problems if you would have cranked them t-bars !!!!
"Seriously", I see your spot, at 35,000 you still had warrenty, now at 40k you don't. A good thing to do is make the dealer aware of a potenial problem you may have. At 35k you should of told your dealer that the tranny wasn't acting right, even if they check it and found nothing wrong, the complaint has been issued under warnnty and they should keep a record of it. My wifes 01 escape had a lifter ticing at 34k, took it to ford, they said it was fine, they all do that. I said grab the keys to a new one and lets have a listen if they all do that. Well, the new one didn't tic, they told me to keep an eye on it and they would document it. At 42k I had 2 lfters colapse, they repaired it under warnenty because it had been documented prior to the actual lifter colapse. These birds try everything to get out of warnenty work, you have to stay one step a head of them. I don't supose you have an extended warrenty, or have had the truck to them before for a tranny related issue ? If you have, it may be your escape.

No extended warranty, and no documentation. Oh well, screw it. I guess I will take care of it myself.
Dave I wish it was a simple fix, but from what I've been reading here on the forum, when the overdrive starts slipping = overhaul, that sucks !!! When overdrives first came out, you were supost to turn the overdrive off when driving anything but highway speed, I mean it was to be off for a round town and stuff, cause if you didn't they would start slipping. It still isn't like that is it, I don't buy auto's much, so I don't know. But my understanding is that you can if the overdrive on at anyspeed now. Just something I remembered, but I'm sure it's not relivent.
Yeah wendell, I should have bought a stick. But the worst part about the 5R55E is that not only is 5th gear overdrive, but the transmission combines 1st gear with OD to make 2nd gear. So now, I have problems in 5th and 2nd.
Was your ride the subject of the TSB calling for the addition of the friction modifier to bring the fluid up to Mercon V specs, and if so did you take care of it like I did ages ago?
Wait, Joelski, I just noticed that the part is for 94-02, and mine is an 04. Does that affect it? Will it still work, or will I have to keep looking?
I'd e-mail TransGo and ask them. I don't think there has been a significant change to the trans over the past several years though. As far as installation, if or when I need to have that done, I will get fleet maintenance at work to install it for me. I don't care if I ever see the inside of a slushbox. All I care about is that it works! Sounds like just the ticket for most people's complaints though. The company bills it as a shift correction kit, rather than a shift performance kit as it expands upon the original intended capability that the factory designed the trans for.
Dave have you been to a dealer service department yet? When you call the customer service line the ears shut off when the warranty limits are exceeded. The dealer deals with a different organization and with you being so close to the end of the warranty there is the possibility for some help under what is typically referred to as a customer courtesy or policy item. While I don't know if there is or is not a TSB on this issue there are also internal campaigns that are not publicized and you won't know about until you go to the dealer. With authority from his district manager, the dealer may be able to help on this though possibly not pay for it all, i.e. Ford may say it will supply parts, you pay labor. I guess if you are hard pressed for change it would cost very little to give it a try. Your selling dealer is the best one to go to with a situation like this.
The one thing situations like this dictate is you must make a record of any issues with a vehicle with authorized service before the warranty expires. Make them write down every issue on the r.o. That way, if it repeats after the warranty is out you have documented the symptom arose during the warranty period. Very sorry if you did not do that here.
Finally if you get nowhere, the way to deal with Ford customer service is to write them. Get a fax number if possible [stealership will have it if you can't get it elsewhere] They keep track of issues like this both internally and externally for the purpose of determing the need for campaigns or TSB's. Letters get more attention. I had a head gasket blow on at 66,000 miles on another Ford [just out of the powertrain warranty] and after a few letters and a little full court press, the repairs were covered.
