Help! Dad's Got 'Puter Problems...
Unfortuneately, he lost the original software, and wanted to update.
He bought a Windows XP Home Edition Pack at Wal-Mart and proceeded with the installation.
From what he told me, he booted from the CD, formatted the hard drive, let the installation do it's thing, and when it rebooted with the new installation, his video card and modem aren't being 'picked up' by the PC. In other words, they need to be installed, but he doesn't have the original software to install them.
I've tried everything that I know, and he's done the same... Still nothing.
What can be done without calling Gateway at almost $1.50/minute?
I hope he's not screwed... It was a doggone-good computer.
Thanks in advance.

If that doesn work, there is another program....i can't remember the name of it, but basically, it ID's all the unidentified devices in teh device manager, which the video card MAY be one. If i can find the name, ill let you know.
Also, when you turn it on or boot it up, right at first, as its finding hard drives and such, sometimes it will list the video card info at the top....VERY briefly. Take a look and watch for it.
Here you go dood...

This will list all your stuff, it may not FIND the driver for it, but it should at least tell you who makes the card. From there, sometimes the manufacturer (if its a name brand) will have a piece of software you can download that will probe it and tell you the model too, or they may just have a bulk driver download that will include ALL models.
This goes for the modem too....it should tell you something about it.

Put in your serial number.
They will have everything you need.
I went to the Gateway link, and they have downloads for each of the drivers. It tells me the name and model of the driver, and gives me a link to click on and download. I guess that's what I need to install these drivers, eh?
Only problem is... I'm going to have to try and download them on this PC and then transfer them to his on a flash drive or something.
Thanks again! I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.
