Hi Guys, need a little help with replacing the injector harness. I've recently upgraded from my 84 6.9 to a 2001 7.3. I bought the truck knowing it burned a little oil and the #8 injector wasn't firing all the time (while cold only). Anyways I'm looking to replace the harness and was wondering if anyone has a simple way to do it, or any tricks I need to know. Incase its not in my signature it a 2001 7.3 crew short with 250K(km). Only modification is the chip flash on the lowest setting.
I replaced both UVC harnesses on mine last month and have a few things to pass on to you. It wasn't difficult to get the valve covers off, just time consuming. Make sure that you come straight down when you put the valve cover back on. It's very easy to knock off one the latches holding the injector wire harness connection in place, and naturally you don't find out about it until you have it all back together and start up the truck! Also, check your glow plugs to see if they need to be replaced. Getting to them is 95% of the work so it would be a good time to do it if they need replacing.
I plan on doing my glow plugs soon. I found this <a href="http://catalog.powerstrokeshop.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=MorePartInfo&PartID=337323&siteid =214083&catalogid=4411"> Glow Plug Replacement Kit</a> from one of the sponsors. It looks to have what you need as well.
There is no Ford speciality tools needed. If you decide to do the glow plugs you may need to use a 1/4" drive socket on the plugs as it has a thinner wall. There's not much clearance there and some of the sockets won't fit.
