PIE Adapter
PIE Adapter
Has anyone installed a PIE adapter to hook up an ipod and control it using your headunit. How hard is it to get the Head unit out.
Also, does anyone know the part number I would order to hook this up on an 06 F250 single disk headunit.

Something D,
I just bought and installed the part last week and it worked like a charm. I had no problem with my factory unit recognizing the adapter and it sounds awsome! You will need a 1 to 2 speaker adapter to plug the Ipod into the red and white input ports on the adapter.

Something D ~ I am having a PIE adapter installed on my '06 F250 this week. One thing to be aware of is if your truck has an '06 radio or an '07 radio. The PIE adapter works great with '06 radios but they have trouble with the '07 radios. I guess PIE updated the chip in the adapter to fix a problem with using them in Mustangs and it caused a problem in the F Series trucks. For the adapter to work, the installer has to get the old chipset from PIE. I'll let you know how it goes later this week.

Please post your results. I was about to order one of these and then read your post. My truck is an 07 SD Lariat and I'm looking to add xm to the existing radio as I want to keep the factory look and steering wheel controls.
Thanks for the information and again, please post your findings.

Just got a response from the people who make the CAN bus thing. Here is my question and their response:
<tt><tt>I read in a Ford forum that your cable (
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piefrd04aux.html ) had some problems
interfacing into the '07 models. I see where it is listed as fitting
up
to an '06, but since mine is an '07 I figured I should ask you first.
I am planning on using this to install an XM direct
unit and keep everything hidden behind the dash, as
well as being able to use the stock steering wheel
controls and select it from the "AUX" switch on the
radio.
Am I headed in the right direction?
Thanks.

<tt><tt>Hi Mike:
No, we're sorry but you are headed in a very wrong direction. First,
the
FRD04-AUX is not compatible with any '07 vehicles at this time, as the
'07 Ford radios in most models are different than the '06 radios.
Additionally, the FRD04-AUX is an auxiliary input converter that
creates
an 'audio-only' connection to your factory radio and will not provide
any control through your factory radio of any device connected to it,
like the XM Direct unit.
Thank you,

And here is their latest. I am a bit disappointed as I thought I had things figured out...
<tt><tt>Mike:
We do not 'make' anything. We are a retailer that sells interfaces made
by interface manufacturers. Currently, there is nothing available for
the '07 F250 radio.

Hey folks! I just got my truck back and the PIE adapter works great! When I hit the AUX button the radio display says PIE and right below it DVD but the sound is great coming out of my iPod. I also bought a bracket from a company called GBX Direct that mounts just to the left of the pull out cup holder using only the srews that hold in the cup holder so it required no drilling. With the iPod in the bracket, I can use the cup holder, see all my upfitter switches, see and use the trailer brake, and open the driver side glove box.
I think it is a great setup!

Yes, I used part FRD04-AUX and I also used a cable that converted the output from two RCA jacks to a singel 3.5M jack.
I can used the controls on the headunit for volume only, in order to change songs I have to use the iPod controls.

I like the setup, it works great. If only you could control the Ipod thru the radio. Oh well, can't have everything.
I do want the Ipod to stay on when I remove the key, thru the delay circuit. Does anyone know what wires need to be tapped for this?
I thought the most difficult part of the install was finding wires to tap into that were close to the radio.
