#1) Im not saying i am doing that for sure but I am thinking about it #2)for more power! #3) you can do way more with a 460 big block than with V10 or a diesel
Isn't that motor like really outdated? Is there anything, powerwise, available for that motor anymore? Not sure when they quit using it, I remember them being in the old 1 mile long Lincoln Continentals. I think my Dad had a 78 LTD with one too. Came with a 351 Cleveland and he swapped out.
Ford put these engines in thier pickups... I had one in my 97 (not 87) F-350 crew cab and yes there are lot available for this engine i.e; blowers, super cobra jet heads, and much more (summitracing.com)
You'll never get the computers in the X to recognize the 460. You'd have to run an aftermarket engine management system, and that also means another management system just to operate the transmission. I'm going that exact approach to get a Northstar engine & 4T80E transmission in the back of my Fiero-based GT40 kit car.
I'm not saying it can't be done ... it just wouldn't make much sense. There's a ton of aftermarket hop-up goodies for the diesels. Your money would be wasted more effectively going that route. (hee hee)
I've toyed with a swap also but am leaning toward a well built supercharged 5.4 . should'nt be a problem getting in the mid to upper 600 hp range and 700 lbft of torque. Beautiful thing is, it's not going to require massive amounts of gas unless you are running it hard. Mileage should be the same or better than what I have now 13cty/16.5 hwy. It should help out with some of the computer and fitment issues too.
I have a 74 Lincoln that is stock w / 510 hp from the factory it is carb engine & 10.5 comp. & it is factory stock , and yes thay did use ford 460 inj. motors till 2000 .
Sounds like a great idea. I have a pair of 429 (460) Police interceptor heads.
Our T-bolt(clone) projet came with a complete motor so we never had a chance to use them.
The 460 is underappreciated. Your MPG listed next to your vehicle made me faint. Our 64 Fairlane with a 429 Cobra-jet motor only runs a 1/4 mile at a time so we don't feel the MPG so much.
