7.3 or 6.0?

Well I am in the market to get a 4wd F250 diesel..

I've been told that the 7.3l is the motor to get and has more power and tows loads better then the 6.0..

Can you guys give me unbiased opinions?

I appreciate it!

SpectreZ91,

7.3L is a good motor, automatic transmission is the weak point in the system

6.0L has more power and torque than the 7.3L and will out pull it all day, no contest. The new 5spd Automatic torqueshift transmission is awsome and also has a towing setting that helps use the enging to hold the truck back when going down hill.

The 2003 & early 2004 6.0L had some teething pains but those have been worked out.

There are years the 7.3L had problems also, look in the 7.3 section of forum for more details.

If it was me i would look for an 05 - 07 6.0L with the Automatic Torque Shift.

Hope this helps

I'll be using it to tow our bronco that has 40" boggers on it..

Everyone I know kept telling me the 7.3 was the motor to get and that it's better then the 6.0.. Wonder why they would all say that.

I do plan on doing a banks system (or equivilent) on it eventually and just want to get my ducks in a row and make sure I buy the right setup first.. Finally can affoard the truck I want and want to do it right the first time.

SpectreZ91,

Simple the 7.3L has been out longer so people forget the problem ones, but they have there problems too.

The 6.0L had teething issues in the 2003 & early 2004 builds, so that turned some people off. But there are lots of 6.0L running around with happey owners. The 6.0L will out pull the 7.3L all day.

Do a search and read in both the 7.3L and 6.0L sections of this forum lots of good info. Ask more questions then choose which truck is right for you.

Hope this helps

SpectreZ91,

Priced a little high for that kind of mileage. Price would be about right if it had between 45 - 50,000 Miles.

Kinda funny cause KBB shows it's worth 27,500.. 2k more then what he's asking, and he already has the lift done, some extra goodies and even has the nerf bars..

When I say that's what I'm lookin for I want a black 4wd cc deisel. But all the ones for sale around here are white.. damnit.. heh

My experience with owning a 97 F250 7.3 psd and now own a 05 F350 6.0 psd. The 6.0 will run circles around the 7.3. I had some problems with the 7.3 but it was an awesome motor. The trans was the week link and always had problems with it hunting for gears while towing. The 6.0 is just incredible. It has tons of power. I have never ran out of power while towing. I have ran out of power with the 7.3 towing up hills and getting on the freeway. I have the man trans on the 6.0 so I cannot compare the different auto trans. I have 28K on the 6.0 without any problems except from an aftermarket part that was not Ford related. I would not hesitate to buy another 6.0.
