56 automatic

How good were the automatics? I can get a 56 292 with automatic for 200. I think might use this in my truck.

Don't waste your time or money. The automatic trans. is a 2-speed Fordomatic. Good luck finding somebody to work on that! Not to mention the fact that it would be REALLY tight trying to wedge one of those heavy behemoth y-blocks under the narrow hood of an F-1. Possible, but not at all worthwhile. The y-block had a funky motormount in the center-front of the engine. I don't have any idea how you'd rig that up. Get a small block and you'll have more power and less headaches.

I don't want a small block. I'd probally change the transmission. If you can fit a 460 in one of these trucks you could fit a y-block.
Could you get good mileage with that transmission?
