This filter's H-U-G-E!!!!

?I played around with the filter earlier today and didn't have much luck with it. There doesn't seem to be enough room between the 4" filter-to-CCV hose to fit any sort of PVC or styrene 45 deg elbow - they don't fit the snorkel on the 46637 anyway. Fitting the 4" hose directly to the filter didn't seem to work either because of a slight taper in the 46637's outlet - it kept slipping off. It was also to short to reach the CCV housing anyway.
For now, I've decided to slow down and think some more about it. Have you ever heard of "Trymar" or something like that? I found an FTE thread from '04 that talked about a kit using the 46637. A web search turned up "Air Supply Systems, Inc. that sells mainly to the big truck industry but had intake & exhaust stuff for us 7.3'ers, too. I was able to order a support bracket for the filter as well as a 45 deg 4" OD aluminized exhaust pipe that should work quite well once I figure out the optimal angle for everything. Also, the Trymar kit shows the restriction sensor installed in the 45 deg pipe bend instead of the end of the filter - I kind'a like this option as it leaves room in the end of the filter for installation of the ambient air temp thermistor (sensor).
It will all work out - I just need to not get in a hurry. By the way, my 5" exhaust from Mark ought to be in tomorrow. Unfortunately, I won't be able to play with (install) anything for about 3 weeks as I have unanticipated travel next week. Dangit!
I'll keep everyone posted as to my progress.

My build date is Jan 05 2000, IIRC. But for this, the only distinction is early 99 or 99.5+, as they have different-shaped intake tubes.
The "Trymar" you mentioned in your previous post is actually the Tymar intake, which is from Dale Isley of Tymar Performance. This setup you're trying to do that so many other folks have done using the 46637 filter is simply a homemade version of the Tymar intake, so we call it a "DIY Tymar" or do-it-yourself. Others call it the "kwik filter" as Kwikkordead was the first to popularize the setup here at FTE. Others simply call it the 6637.
ALL you need to do this is a piece of 4" exhaust pipe, or a piece of PVC, to go between the filter and intake hose. Or, you can try and slip the intake house around the filter opening, which some folks are able to do. You'll also need one hose clamp. The only other work is getting it to fit, so you have to take out the old filter and housing.
PS - might I suggest you click on User CP up in the uppper left corner of your screen, and edit your Profile to include your location. That way, you don't have to type in Spicewood, TX each time.
You can also fill out your Signature there with your truck's details and/or your name or whatever you like. Putting your truck's info there will help folks help you w/ problems or mods in the future.
Thanks to the thread gang for everyone's input and helping out an old dog who's trying to learn some new tricks!
5" exh ought'a be in today, I'll let all know how it goes in a few weeks when I get to it.
Cheers.

Kris, you and others were right about the sound change. The whistle is much louder and there seems to also be a low growl which is vaguely reminiscent of an old thermo-quad on a '72 California GS with a 454 with a beehive air cleaner ('course I'm guessing 99.945% of you on this forum are too young to remember that one). Sounds sweet, anyway.
What I was not prepared for was the noticable increase in HP - it's not much - but it is noticable. The biggest difference is how fast the turbo spins up now. Wow! Instead of being pushed back in my seat with the OEM box, I was politely shoved back into my seat. Nice!
If this is any indication of things to come, then I have a lot to look forward to after I get the 5" exhaust on, the gauges installed, the DP chip in, and the BTS VB, and the...well, you know - it just doesn't stop, does it.
To borrow a movie quote: "To Infinity...and Beyond!"
Thanks to all who helped this old dog learn a thing or two and I'll keep everyone posted as to how the exhaust install goes once I get to it in a few weeks.
Y'all are great!!

I have watched the evolution of Kris, and now a well respected supporter, contributer, enthusiast.
He's helped me, and I'm a frigg'in mechanic.
