While at pick a part I noticed that the truck I got the thermo housing from (67-9) fleetside FE 2bbl had heads with C8AE casting #'s went home and browsed my book and it seemed these were 428 heads ? Would they be worth grabbing if still there in Nov during the 1/2 price sale..,
2ndly is it possible this is a 428 ? what should I look for in bore/cast #'s to confirm it ? Thinking to grab the crank (rods?)as well maybe hold onto them for a future build..for something.. TIA
Was it C8AE or C8AE-H? I'd bet they were plain old FE heads. I highly doubt it's a 428.
If you're really interested in it, get as many part numbers as you can. I'd pull the oil pan and get a crank number. Those usually aren't shared between motors and will give a fairly good indication of what motor it is.
I'll head back out there on the weekend of the sale and see whats available. The yard has a pretty high turnover from what Ive seen.. the 67 I got the intake off of and was thinking to grab the d2 heads from is already gone.. 1 mo. pretty much. it would seem
the standard 428 and I believe the 428pi had those heads. But, theres about a 1% chance its a 428. I never have heard of a 2bbl 428. BTw, c8ae-h are standard heads!
No 428 ever had a 2 barrel carb on it for the factory and why would anyone replace the Holley 4 barrel with a 2 barrel carb and manifold.
Well Bear stranger things have happened..LOL..when I lived in SoCal, I remember back in the early 70's when the gas crunch was going on, Some of the Guys I ran with in the Hotrod club...went too to 2brl..on there Daily driver/weekend worrior cars to save a buck or two on gas...
Its hard to say what anyone might have done? I know a guy who took out a perfectly good Trac-loc (' and replaced it with an 8.8" because he thought it was a lighter and better rear end, because the newer 5.0 stangs were running them.... I just laughed and bought his old 9" for $150..and sold it on ebay for a steal at $500...
