Just wondering if anyone has ever swaped the leaf springs to the inside of the frame rail from the outside on a 71 F100. I may just go to a four link in the rear but trying to think of all my options first.
Thanks for any info.
Just out of curiosity why would you want to? It's probably not too difficult but would need some sort of plates because the inside of the channel is not boxed in, so welding would likely be the key. Hopefully nothing is in the way on your application.
My hot rod self bought a narrowed rearend at the swap meet.. Tubbing the rear was easy in the bed !!! Then the frame was not bad boxing from the cab to front of spring hangers then laid boxed tubing on the inside of frame past the rear hanger ..A little gusset work then cut out old frame . Set springs in total of 16 inches .. Looks like a bad *** trk from the rear .. I'll post photos tomorrow ..Total cost was metal from salvage yard 160.00$ , rods 40.00$ , tubs from bed of doner trk 20.00$ time one weekend ... 16 inch wide Mickey Thompson tires setting under a 68 F-100 is bad to the bone........
The truck is going to be pro street, but i'm trying to fit the widest tire i can without narrowing the frame. Thus, moving the leafs in to gain a few extra inches.
Heres a link to an article that I wrote about moving the leaf springs inside the
frame on a 65 and I also used almost the same method on moving the leafs
on my 77 also . I think its a real safe way to Pro-Streeting, our trucks don't cut it in half! You may also want to look at my gallery, I have some good pics
of the work being done on my 65!
