I can't see where that would be much better than a soup bowl and certainly not better than a flat lid. Kind of like the Turbonators or Tornados, any airflow obstruction is going to flow worse than no obstruction - regardless of how it "directs", "deflects", "swirls", or otherwise modifies the flow pattern....
That is just a soup bowl you can not cut off.
I have seen a stock lid that looked just like that, except it did not have Banks on it.
As for the likes of the Tornado, I see we now have a TAG for a turbo equiped engine.
But instead of swirling the air like the tornado does, it straightens it out.
So if you have an engine that has nothing to swirl the air, buy a tornado.
But if you have a turbo to swirl the air, buy a TAG.
One says swirl is better, the other says straight is better.
Starting to sound like the green grass and the fence deal to me, the most desired thing is what you do not have.
I just figured it out.
I am going to install two TAG's and two Tornados and then I am going to go out pull a C 15 Caterpillar that has over 2000 foot pounds of torque. I know it won't stand a chance.

The TAG and Tornado are completely different concepts used in different locations of the intake air stream. The Turbo Air Guide (TAG) is used near the inlet of the turbo to straighten the air flow and make it smooth to reduce turbulence on the compressor and in turn reduces the exhaust drive pressure required on the turbo. This simply helps with the efficiency of the turbo. The Tornado and products like it are generally used to create turbulence entering the combustion chamber to enhance mixing and combustion. Here is a link to more information and testing of the TAG http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/tag
I'm running one of those air cleaner tops made by Raywell. It is a much smaller soup bowl than the factory one. Maybe I'll try some experiments with it this coming year to see if there's any difference between it and a flat top.

THERE ya go - emperical data. Side-by-side comparison. That's the ticket!
