i changed fuel filter primed new one when installed purged valve at top of filter now it won't start maybe i should bleed at nozzles ? oops its a 93 e 350 thanks george
hi george, welcome aboard .. when you say primed you mean you filled the new filter with clean fuel ?? It should start right up for ya if it was running before you changed the filter.
If it wont start, make sure the filter is full of clean fuel and crack the injection lines loose til there is plenty of fuel flowing, snug the lines and start it.
yes i drove about 60 miles yesterday with no problems started fine, ran fine yes filter was filled with clean fuel now it wont start at first it tried to go but didnt now it just turns over . should i crack nozzles lose then crank engine?new to deisles not sure where to go from here. george
Sounds like you somehow introduced a source for an air leak when you changed the filter.
Is the filter tight?
Did you loosen the tubing connections? Make sure they are tightened good.
Did you clean the bottom of the bowl good? Is the drain wheel at the bottom fully closed? Did you clean the schraeder valve at the bottom, make sure it does not leak air in?
Did you disturb any of the return rubber tubing. Sometimes when you touch these, (specially old hard rubber lines) they start to leak air once they have been disturbed. If the rubber hoses feel hard and look cracked, they should all be replaced along with the O-rings under the plastic cups on top of the injectors.
Sure sounds like you made yourself an air leak somewhere in the fuel system.
well i finally got it fixed i had removed one line that comes from top of filter adapter cracked nozzles retightened started right up . i have only had this van for a couple of months how often do you have to do maitenence on injector lines and nozzles?also what else should i look at or think about checking this thing runs extremly well and was very well maintained motor has 200000 miles but runs great no smoke no trans problems just runs great . any info. is greatly appreciated . george
If it runs great and does not smoke much, then no need to worry about it.
All the rubber return lines, plastic caps and o-rings under the plastic caps should be replaced every 8 to 10 years or if you notice the rubber getting hard. The problem is that if the rubber components get hard they tend to stop sealing and let air into your fuel system which then causes cold starting problems.
Change your fuel filter regularily (every 25k) and find a good fuel station that sells diesel without water. Water in the fuel is really bad for your injection pump and injectors so avoid it by buying good fuel.
