I don't know if this has been posted or not but here goes.....Of the ones who own a '05-'06 Super Duty, how many of you are having problems with the paint coming off of the new style emblems? My driver side and tailgate emblems are missing either a number or letter. I have looked around while driving and have noticed other trucks doing the same thing. How hard would it be to replace them with the chrome letters and black background ones('04 and later).
Thanks,
Murf
Thanks schmidt64 I wasn't sure if that would be a warranty item or not but if they did change it I fear it would just happen again in time and I would be back where i am now
My 05 F250,lost the paint on the badges,my dealer was going to replace them, but I got a black paint pencil at the local welding shop for like 2 bucks,re painted them and so far it still is sticking, and was a glossy paint and stands out.
I Had The Same Problem With My 05 F-350.i Was Worried If They Were Replaced It Might Happen Again,so I Removed The Factory Paint, remasked The Emblems And Sprayed With Satin Bkack Rustoleum.no Problems Yet.

My truck is not having this problem (as of yet), but I was wondering about it since I have seen this problem on other Super Duty trucks. Are the factory numbers/letters painted on or a decal?
Had my tailgate emblem replaced on my '05 F-250. Oddly enough, my fender emblems are fine. Guy at work has a new F-150, his fender badges are peeling. Guess this is what you get when you go with the low-cost supplier....

I am not having any problems (as of yet) but I have seen what you are talking about. I was kinda wondering about it myself because it does look like crap.
I hate to say it - Ford should have known that this is what eventually happens when you put paint/decals on a smooth polished chrome surface. For this reason, it will probably happen again if you have them replaced.
Some of the problem could be when people are washing their trucks with one of those high pressure hand-held wands they are holding it too close to the surface. Even if this were the case, it is still a defect though.

The one on my tailgate was pealing the day I purchased it, with 16 miles on the odometer. Maybe someone on the lot had pressure washed it, but I don't know. I knew it was a warranty item, so I didn't care. I'll get it replaced later, but I also have some concern that it will happen again. The thing that suprises me is the this was happening in 05, so why didn't they take care of the problem before sending it on to a newer model year? Although they are just cheap plastic emblems, the labor Ford is having to pay the dealerships for this on many, many trucks has to be adding up quickly.
There was a post on this topic several months ago. As I remember, I think Ford switched to a different type/quality of paint after they (as well as the customers) noticed it was peeling all over the place. You should be able to do a search or two and find the thread if you are interested, but as the others have said, they should replace it.
So much for the factory stuff, I have already had mine replaced a couple of times. I think I would remove them entirely, except that whem removed there are exposed allignment holes. Does anybody make an intresting aftermarket emblem that could go in its place?
