The TPS tells the PCM how much pressure to use in the transmission. While at idle very low pressure and low heat generated.
right, but shouldn't it still go into gear when the lever is placed in drive without having to mess with the throttle? I still am not convinced that throttle position sensor would cause the transmission to not go into gear, but work fine once it gets in gear. Erratic shifting I would understand, but I don't get not going into gear.

He has never said what transmission we are working with and maybe the transmission is not controlled by the PCM. I was thinking E4OD but he may have a C6 or an AOD.
If it is not an E4OD then his problem is inside the transmission.
After rethinking all of this you are more than likely right and it is not the TPS.
It would be one of the items on the list below if it is an E4OD.
Delayed engagement -- neutral to drive and neutral to reverse.

well i dont know about other guys tranny but mine is the e4od. Your list is pretty scary, so i think il try the sensors u mentioned first, seeing how there is a pick you part here il grab a few of each sensors and see if the problem persists. I relly hope it doesnt require more than changing the fluid and filter. If it does than might as well replace the whole thing.
