Hey guys, my dad is thinking of getting a 2002 Explorer.
I'm just wondering if there are any problems with these, or anything to look out for.
It has the 4.0 SOHC with an auto.
i have a 2002 with 80k miles. good little SUV. only problems we have had is one front wheel bearing and one rear wheel bearing go bad. the are a sealed unit and not greaseable. ours is a 4 x 4 with 5 speed auto. nice truck.
Ok, this one has super high miles. (200K to be exact) But it seems to run really well and it all feels really tight. I think that any thing like wheel bearing probably all ready went out and have been replaced. It's had annual maintenance.
This one is also a 4X4, it's not fully loaded but it does have most options. Nicer rims, better CD player, running boards, 3rd seat.
A few years back, I picked up my 02, 4.0, 4x4, with 89K, GOOD truck. Had to replace the driver side window switch panel, shotgun side window switch failed. Now I have a low hum from the rear end. I think it might be the punkin. Will need to take it in and looked at. Keep a close eye on the air pressure in the tires. Anything less than what is called for, you can feel it. 30/35 psi. Uther than that, good truck. Enjoy.....
My dad looked at another explorer and it had the same humming noise from the rear end as yours does.
Have any of you noticed anything strange going on with the motor when you run E-85?
My dads boss is selling the vehicle and he's been letting my dad drive it around for a couple days, so he put some e-85 in it and it's been running kinda weird now.
It makes like a almost ping-like sound when you accelerate..
I would run the e-85 out of it, and then give it some 87 octaine to see if that was the cause, and if the ping went away. Don't think we have a need for the e-85 out west, at least not right now. Hope it had no lasting effect.
