Yes Tom, we know about the rating numbers. Curiously, nobody has a definitive answer as to the difference between the autos and sticks. Also, this must obviously be controlled by programming because they are otherwise identical.
I believe these are flywheel numbers controlled by the PCM and that translates into some lame numbers at the rear wheels. Thank goodness for copious amounts of torque though. We all seem to forget those numbers.
Now those low HP numbers work well for Ford for warranty purposes. International keeps theirs low for longevity. That is why tuners and chips can really wake these things up because a lot is left on the table.
There was a saying from long ago, the dog that poops fast does not poop for long. Things were simpler then but it still applies.

a guy here recently dynoed his truck, bone stock before any mods. I believe had cranked out 170ish HP, and 410ish torque. I'm going to look for that thread.
Last spring, i dynoed my truck on the stock chip setting, and that includes all of my mods except the ATS housing and the fuel system. 208hp and 430tq.

all the hp numbers givin from the factory are at the crank not the wheel, if it were at the wheel then ford would have different power ratings for every different cab/drive/wheel and tire size combo that they offer (just wouldn't be economical for the company to do this). Now the 99's (im pretty sure the early 99 as well) thru the early 01's in standard have 235hp, the 99's thru 00's in automatic have 235hp as well. Around october of 2000 (part of the way thru the 01 builds) ford changed the standards to 275hp and all of the engines made past that point had the pmr's instead of the forged rods (thats both standard trucks and autos). all the 01 autos had 250hp and im fairly sure that they didn't get the boost up to 275hp until 03 but it could have been 02.

Another reason for the difference in the factor ratings of the autos vs manuals is the manuals just put more power to the ground. If you dyno an auto and a manual all w/ the same mods and all else being equal, the manual will dyno higher. For example, the typical truck like mine w/ intake/exhaust/dp-tuner will put down around 300 hp, but w/ a manual, around 330 hp.
