Tranny noise
I've been getting a metallic rattling in my 460/C6 that I've narrowed down to the bellhousing area, I can hear it at idle but it gets noisier around 1500 -2500 rpms. I'm thinking that it's probably the flexplate but I'm wondering if the torque converter might make a noise like that if it's bad? I drove a large IH truck with an Allison that broke the flexplate and it sounds a lot like that did (like the engine's coming apart), so I'm thinking that may be the problem. I hate the thought of pulling the tranny and not finding anything...... Any ideas what it might be?
I know I probably should have put this in the trans section, but I figure there's some 73-79 guys that have dealt with this.

Well the first thing I would do is pull your starter and check the torque convertor to flex plate mounting nuts, if those come loose it sounds like you have an engine coming apart, and it's cheap and easy to check adn fix if it's the problem.

Yeah, I forgot to say that I pulled the inspection plate and they all seemed pretty tight. I did notice that my headers are leaking a little at the collecter flange gasket, but it sounds more like it's in the bellhousing.
