Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was
the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had
the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the
kids.
What happened?
And I still have to "press 1" for English.

Problem is, Mom shouldn't have to stay home unless she wants to.
Always has to be a tax/bond/initative to pay for something...like that new traffic light down the street that saves a few live a year, etc.
It's apart of life, vote yea or nay, have your say, and be glad your still in the US of A.

My personal belief is that intitlements are the problem. As our nation grows more and more socialistic, an ever-growing percentage of our taxes are deverted into intitlement programs. So, to achieve their original goal the XXXX Dept. needs to sell bonds for the needed revenue taken by the intitlement programs. When I lived in Orange County, I attended Cal State Fullerton. There was a movement to build a recreation/exercise center for the students. The center would have cost $3 million to build. The prob was that the intitlement program policy required that any new fees voted into the system would be doubled to provide like funds for low-income student scholarships. So, instead of $3M, the cost would have been $6M. The vote failed when it became common knowledge about the scholarship fee increase.
