reverse making truck die

My friend has a 97 psd with a matic and he has a problem with it dying when it is put in reverse. Doesn't do it every time but way too often. Also sometime dies when using turn signals. Any ideas?

Check for any little ground wires from the engine block to the sheetmetal. If any are loose, corroded or missing, it may be a grounding problem to the cab.

These sound like two totally unrelated problems. The tranny would only kill the engine if it was binding up somehow so that it stopped the engine. I would see if you couldn't get the schematic for both the prdnl switch and the turn signals. Then see if there is anything remotely in common. If not start tracing both circuits making sure there is power and ground without any cuts in the insulation or corrosion on the contacts.
