G'day. I was wondering if anyone has a way of making the horn button work on a '56 that has the stock column with P/S box. I've looked at some of the archives in the forum without much luck & thought there might be a way of making it work. I am using a remote buton at the moment which is fine but it'd be nice to get the horn button to operate the horn. Cheers.
There was a thread on this very subject a few weeks ago. You should probably be able to find it if you do a search. I think Colonel Flashman was the originator of the post.
No solution yet. Some ideas were discussed in the thread Bobby mentioned. It's wide open for someone to come up with a fix, the world will beat a path to your door!
The only real world answer for now is to swap in a different steering column and wheel.
Thanks Bobbie & Ax. I did have a look at the CF thread, that sure was interesting.... I have emailed Mid-Fifty to see if they have some fix to my problem. The thing is, I bought a whole new horn assembly without realising what I was going to face. That was before I discovered FTE forum, now I check & double check before I do something as it's pretty hard to send something back from OZ if I get it wrong. Cheers.
Here's hoping you can find a cool solution. As AX said, you could make a mint if you found a quick easy answer.
Yea, I'll bet its hard enough to find parts way down there, let alone trying to send them back when they aren't right,
Is that your truck in your avatar? IF so you need to set up a gallery and give us a proper view of it. Even if its not, try and set up a gallery. We love pics!!!
I wonder how hard would it be to setup a wireless transmitter in the horn button. Say have it run on a AA battery. Push the button and it transmits to a receiver which activates the horn solenoid.
Just wondering if someone could explain what the issue is with this, doubt I have a solution, but I sure am curious what on earth would stump you guys! Im always impressed with the cleverness of this group of builders...
I'm gonna do a gallery soon & yes Bobby that is my truck on the avatar. I have a LHD '56 F100 & a RHD '60 F500. That transmitter idea has got me thinking........................ I'll let you know. Cheers
packrat, look up the thread we referenced, the problem is discussed pretty heavily in there. I believe I could figure out a solution if I needed one, but I went aftermarket with my column and wheel, so it is not high on my priority list, maybe someday I'll pull out my old column and wheel. I suppose a wireless transmitter could be rigged but it would need to be pretty compact, there isn't much room under the button. Batteries would need to be button cells to fit.
AX may have been onto something in the other thread. I was just digging through the 2006 mid-fifty catalog and there is a very expensive conversion to save the horn in there....look on page 137. There is a tiny extremely light picture.
Horn Conversion kit, Keep your stock horn button & stock column hand made & expensive, but works......4629....$150 kit
I'll have to wait until Mon to check it out, my 06 catalog is at work.
You don't keep a copy in your daily driver? I thought everyone did.
I suspect its an expensive thing like you were talking about making (for cheap) in the other thread. The picture in the catalog is tiny and very light. I can't tell anything from it.
