I'm looking for a replacement soft tonneau cover for my 2001 B4000 extended cab and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to a good brand/style. The one I have currently is the original Mazda one and it was ripped when I bought the truck a couple years ago. The Mazda one has a plastic edge that fits into a slot on the rails. This is not what I want in the new one... I think that was the weak point in the ripped one. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Tekstyle makes a good tonneau cover. The bows are easy to remove when you need to uncover the bed and the snaps are heavy duty and they stay snapped. Punch in their name on the web and it will take you to a warehouse with lots to choose from and gives free shipping.
Extang (I think?) makes a hinged, soft tonneau that allows you to take the whole frame off without unsnapping the cover. If I was going to spend a bit of cash on a bed cover, that's what I'd go with. They're not cheap, though.
The cheap, snap-on cover I have now contracts too much to snap back on when it's cold out even when it's adjusted to it's loosest setting, so if I want to have it covering the bed for the winter (which I do), I can't take it off after Columbus day. Then, if I need to use the truck as a truck again anytime before April, I'm stuck leaving the bed uncovered for the rest of the winter.

Besides lifting up, can you roll this one up, toward the cab, or is this the one that I saw, that was a soft one, designed to be folded in three sections. (never caught it's brand).
Also, any benifits on snaps verse velcro?
I have the tekstyle for my ranger, I love it, It's great. I know people with the Extang, and they hate them, theirs seem to fall apart prematurely too.
I have the Lund rollup cover, and its been good for me. Easy to get out of the way if needed, and easy to put back on. Some of them are very hard to get the fasteners undone to roll up, but not this one.
I believe it rolls up. That's the one I'm talking about, I just can't remember for sure if it's the Extang. I'm not going to put one on this truck, so I haven't looked too far into it.
Can't say about snaps vs. velcro, though I have to wonder what would happen to the velcro if you were to haul, say, a load of mulch or manure home...
Sportmasters makes a good one. thats what i have on my truck. it's a snap on and have the same problems with the cold though. they also make a roll up velcro one.
Here at Shur-Co we manufacture the Truxedo Lo Profile soft roll-up cover. It's fastened on the sides with Velcro, and is very durable. It rolls up in seconds, has automatic tension control (stays tight even when temperatures fluctuate) and has a life time warranty. Check out our web site - truxedo.com - and click on the durability video under gallery. It's one tough cover!
There's a cheap one at Meijer's stores, if you have them in your area. They go on sale for $150 fairly regularly. They're tough to put on at lower temperatures (metal snaps on the top, plastic snap receivers on the rails) but it can be done. Personally, I'm cheap and just wanted something to cover the bed - my dad bought a fancy tonneau for his truck and had it shrink within 4 years to where it was 3 inches too short to put on, so I didn't want to invest much in it.
We also manufacture the Truxport cover, which is the economical cove. It's still an excellent choice if someone doesn't want to spend money on the premium cover. The Truxport is sold at a "snap cover" price, but doesn't have snaps so it's a breeze to use and install.
