Been working on my truck bed and would like to fill in the stake pockets. Is there anyone out there that sell's something special for this, or do you just find some metal and weld it in? Same goes for the cab corner where the gas inlet is located. It took me ten years to find this truck, used to belong to my grandfather, when he passed on it sold at his sale, after ten years I finally found it and got it back. This truck means alot to me and want to do a good job on it. Should have seen my grandmother's eyes when I drove up in that old truck. So need all the help I can get. Thanks alot, realy enjoy reading all your post.

You'll probably have to fab the patches out of mild steel. I suggest a thickness equal to or slightly lighter than the truck. (About 18 guage I suppose) Requires a little less heat that way to minimize heat distortion. Make sure the patch is near perfect fit and the job will be much easier with a a MIG welder. Brazing is no good on sheetmetal IMHO. The stakes will be far easier than the gas tank opening so do them first.

If I might offer a final suggestion and take it for what it's worth. Think twice about making radical mods to the body of the truck. These trends go out of style and Grandpa's old truck is a treasure to keep forever. I bet Grandma was thrilled indeed.
