Yeh, mine's in warranty with 3,600 miles on it. Selling dealer is 375 miles away.

Uh-oh, am I going to have to make nice and befriend a local dealer? It's so difficult around here.

They're all small dealers and they seem to have an attitude...like if you didn't buy it here, why do you bring it here? And I'm thinking...you charge enough, I'm doing YOU the favor and if you can't take care of me now, why would I want to buy from you later...to get more of this abuse?

So there's a silent stand-off.

Flash, huh? What's that do?

There is a lot to be said about the extraordinary service I get locally ...but in truth it is because I bought 18 new vehicles from them in last 12 years. Add to that the fact that I am an expert mechanic in many areas and I do a lot of research so when I tell the service manager something he or she tends to accept that I know what the hell I am talking about.

Still there are days when the tech in the back screws crap up and there I am like everybody else battling for satisfaction. Got to the point where me and the service manager do a complete pre service inspection of my vehicles and note on the work order all pre existing dings and scratches etc.

Re-flashing the Power-Train Control Module is the same as adding in Win XP service pack 2 and any updates. Ford has literally dozens of "Codes" for all their updates...some do good things and others screw crap up. It is a little better then a crap shoot because they do have many codes to try. Unfortunately the un sophisticated dealer technician is not aware of the choices and what they do. He will so a OASIS search on the Ford web site relating to your vin. Usually he can down load the LATEST re-flash into his system scanner / computer and apply this "update" to your PCM. A tech with a lot of V8 V10 gas motor truck experience can go further and research what each of the different CODES was developed to fix. But it is like you dropping down to the add remove programs area of your Win XP system and noting all the cryptic codes fro each of the updates.. you have to slog through dozens of raw identity numbers go to Microsoft site and research what each one corrected... I have never been able to crack the FoMoCo code on these re-flash codes

If you are a glutton for punishment here is the way the Ford Tech has to find the latest re-flash code for your Van
