I have a 58 ford f100 with a 223. What I'm looking at doing is running a line off of my canister oil filter to the rocker arm oil assembly. I'm hoping this will give me better oil flow to the top end of my engine. So what my question is is that if I do this will I be sacraficing flow to the rest of the bottom end and if I run this is it going to be a high pressure(the rockers use low pressure flow from the #3 cam bearing) or low pressure? Thanks in advance for you help....Happy Fording!!!!
Hi 58 Ford,
About 30 years ago a company called Champ Service Items used to make such a kit for Ford rocker arms to supplement oil supply to them. I don't know about the 6 cylinder kits, but I installed one on a 292 Y block. As I recall, it had a restriction in the fitting where it fit into the rocker arm shaft. This was probably to prevent loss of oil pressure as you stated. I don't know if Champ is still in business, but you may find something like this in a flea market or for that matter a machine shop may be able to make something to fit your engine. This brings back fond memories of Ford rocker arm assemblies clattering for want of oil. (they also don't like dirt)How many people remember that one?

My dad's '57 Fairlane 500 with 312 had a set of these oilers as aftermarket. Don't remember the details, but it really quieted down the motor, and it then ran until the midwest road salt ate up the body. sigh.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Nov-02 AT 07:09 PM (EST)]I think there's one on eBay right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1871883534&rd=1
There's another auction that just ended without a bid that has something similar: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1871680638
How do these install? Do you have to drill a hole in the valve cover or something?
Hi Kevin,
The copper tubing that supplies the oil goes right under the valve cover. The tubing is slightly flattened in this area to allow the gasket to seal around it.
