Whats the original engine in the truck im sure you will need correct engine mounts radiator right transmission that will bolt up to the 302 and a place where you could find this stuff is a junkyard
Eric, I must disagree with Dustin. If it were 65 or newer he would be correct. The pre 65 trucks used a front mount rather than a side mount system.
The best thing depending on your skill level might be to purchase a side mount kit from one of the aftermarket guys like Carpenter, Rick Allen, LMC, etc. Then you can install the side mount engine in.
Eric, The skill level required to install an EFI system is much greater than a carb. We have no idea of what that may be, how many tools or shop space you have access to. It is not an easy retrofit.
Personally, I prefer a carb. But, I like to tell my vehicle what to do instead of letting a computer do it. EFI just has too many things that can go wrong and a simple problem ends up taking several days just to diagnose. Especially if it's a retrofit. Of course, that's just my opinion.
I am in the same boat with you on that. The idea of FI is appealing, but carbs are just fine, and very tunable in any application.
If you know what your doing with a carb, your truck can be like mine, I dont have to hit the gas in the morning, I dont have to pull the choke, and I dont have to force it to run in the mornings no matter how cold it is. It runs like an FI, but its a carb
what type of carb are you planning on running on it?
holley, edel, motosport, carter, etc? 1, 2, 4 barrel
What type of intake? high rise, low, dual plane, victor, airgap, w/wo egr etc...
What type/size cam (roller/flat; rv/truck/car/hotrod; lobe seperation)
IS the engine stock, modded, built, .... how many miles, does it have any blowby,
Type of ignition will you have, electronic, points, crank triggger?
What will the truck be used for, pulling, racing, normal driving?
What kind of gearing does it have? high low middle of the road....
tpye of transmission auto, straight....
all of these and a bunch of others can be factors in setting them up..
the more info you can give me, the better i can help you out.
Even things like what kind of breather will it have?
Spark plugs.
from there I can perhaps give you tips on how to get it close...then fine tuning should get you purring like a kitten.
I know it sounds like a lot of info, but really once its done, then thats pretty much it, except a possible fine tuning once in a while.
