Has anyone done a hydroboost braking system on one of their slicks? I have been kicking this around for quite awhile. The duration of the cam can be quite a bit more without worrying about brake booster failure.(as long as the torque converter can hold it.) Besides that you get better braking power. So if anyone has done one please share your info with me so I know where to get started.-THANK YOU!
Makes perfect sense to me. I've thought about it myself, but my truck is going to be more of an "old school" ride. One place to start looking would be the a Mustang GT. I don't know about the new versions, but the '02 GT I had was equipped with the hydro-boost brakes. There may be a way to retrofit those onto a Slick. How hard could it be? Right?
I would start with locating a system then asking a bunch of questions prior to purchasing the parts from them. I want tech support to start before I lay the cash down. I'm assuming you have power steering now to be looking at this as an option. One thing right off the bat you will have to change is the resirvor. Normally there is only one return fitting. With the hydro boost you will need another return fitting.
I guess I need to come in more often, I had never heard of hydoboost, and first thought why water (hydro). I did do a Google search on the subject and found several articles on it. I thought I would link one since it is dealing with a truck not far from our age trucks, and using years upgrade. http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/hydro.asp
I think this weekend I'll go to the pick-a-parts around here and see if I can scrounge one up. The ones I have seen have all been on GM trucks 1ton and above. I do know that alot of four-wheelers convert their braking system to hydro-boost,most of which do use the GM parts-EVEN the true BLUE-OVAL guys llike ourselves. So when I get this done I will post the info. Also going to convert my rear dana 60 to disc brakes to match the fronts.
I did this same conversion on an 82 mustang I have.
Hydroboost/ 4 wheel disk, (and on the stang 5 lug wheels)
It was great while it lasted...not, but it did not last long. I had nothing but problems out of it. I used that setup for about 2 weeks, then jerked the hydro off of it, and went vaccy. still left the 4 wheel disk and 5 lug. Never had a moments problem out of it.
Well Ford, Lincoln, and a bunch of other auto makers have been using it that I can find in text or on vehicles since the mid 70's. 2003 and up Mustangs also use the hydro boost since it takes less engine compartment space. CCP offers a kit as of a few months ago as well.
well did not get to the wrecking yard today. Next week I plan on getting there to find a 1 ton truck and salvage all the parts to start my conversion. I have had a few trucks in the past that had hydroboost and i loved it.Better stopping power, can build more power into my engine(cam selection)more working room under the hood.- by the way,how do you get those pictures by your user-name?I am dumb when it comes to computers!!
