Rear end width

Does anyone know the width from axle flange to flange on a 51 F-1? I have a 07 Mustang rear axle setup and am wanting to install it. I have not had the time to remove my wheels and measure yet. The Mustang is 64 inches.

hutchamatic, i can tell you that the 07 rear will be to wide, go to the top of this forum and you will see articles & specs, type in 1948-1956 rear axle swaps and it will bring you to a page that will give you your options for rear swaps.

hutchamatic,
I have a '50 rear end that measures 61" axle flange to axle flange without drums.

It is 40-1/4" from spring pad centerline to spring pad centerline.

This should help. And since they "reorganized" this site, the stickies with the handy tech info and tech articles have gone somewhere into the ether of GKW.

Thanks. It is hard to believe that an 07 Mustang rear axle is wider than these trucks. WOW. A 87 to 93 is 59 inches wide. Looks like I may swap it for one of those. I have 8 inch wheels with 5 inches of backspacing. Maybe I can make that work. I really appreciate the replies.

I came up with 40.5" on my 1956 center to center, I there a difference from my series?

Bad5t6,
There may be a difference between '50 and '56, but I don't know for sure. The frame did change from '52 to '53 when they changed the body style. On the '56, I don't know. On my '48 and therefore on the '50 rear end, the springs are mounted on the outside of the frame rails. I don't know if they are different on the '56 since I haven't worked on one of these. Even some of the parallel leaf kits for the '48-'52 are different. I know the TCI kit mounts the springs in, partially under the frame rails and uses slightly wider springs.

All this being said, measure twice, cut once. Or in this case, measure twice and make sure you have the dimensions written down when you go buy the part at the junkyard, swap meet or individual's house.
