They are currently upgrading to a faster server and with over 4 MILLION posts on FTE. There are currently 367 000 registered members. That is a lot of people trying to access the same stuff like you. Having been on FTE for 6 years, I've never really have a big problem. Sure there are the occasional hiccup but I'll wait a few seconds for quality information. I lived with 56k for 10 years. None of the "You are such a newb", "Don't you know what the ____ search button is for" is on FTE. I really should buy a subscription, then I get faster load times and no adds, bigger advatars, access to the Member's Lounge and much more!
Too bad I don't have a credit card!
Lack of ads/buying a subscription does help quite a bit, but the fact still remains that other sites are faster and more reliable. I hope the folks who own this thing don't take it for granted. Lots of good, profitable businesses have slid down that slope before, thinking that brand loyalty will overcome a poor product. It never works out in the long run.
I am glad you all fell that way too, as I am not the only one who notices the "flaky-ness"
Wow. Mil1ion was so snippy with you that I had to put my 2 cents in...probably going to pay for that. They do have a point though; you're obviously not a computer newbie, but you're an FTE ...haven't been here long enough to be a moderator.
AX, It never fails, the longer the response you type, the more likely it will get shot out into the ether.
My other beef is that my subscription appearantly expired. I didn't get any kind of notice, email, PM or otherwise to indicate that it was expiring. I re-upped but it would have been nice to know before it ran out.
Overall I can take a few little glitches here and there.
Hopefully they will get it all straightened out before too long
my old dial-up internet server was the worst I ever had to go through. One week of their downtime equals about 100 years of downtime here. I hope that just made sense.
AX I'm glad somebody said something about this, I've had a lot of problems to. I built my computer system thought i might have left something out or in backwards
That's the reason I posted this topic, not to Bi**h, but to see if others were experiencing the same things. I love this place and the people on this forum!
Ax, you jinxed me - I have not had any problems until I first read this thread - then things went to hell in a hurry. Tonight I have lost 3 posts, and was totally unable to download any page for better than 3 hours.
There was a notice to that question a couple weeks ago saying that management was transfering all pinned topics into articles. I don't know if that has been completed yet.
Don't know what that means Axracer, but maybe I will learn soon. In the past I have referred many folks to the site for the reference threads. Sure hope I can continue to.
Thanks for informing me. Joe
Joe, If you go to the top of this page, right below the masthead there is a grey stripe. click on "Articles and Specs" box to find an index of articles on all sorts of topics. There, now you have enough reading material to last thru the entire weekend!
I'm not sure why they decided to do what they did, but then no one asked me first...
