leaky carb question

I have a 76 f150, with a 360 running a motorcraft 2bbl carb. I noticed the other day that it is begining to seep gas around the throttle shaft going into the carb. I had planned on putting a carb kit in it, but if is leaking around that shaft is it rebuildable? Or should I start looking for another carb?

Any input greatly appreciated, Thanks

Chances are good that it can be successfully rebuilt. Excessive play around the shaft acts like a vacuum leak. If you haven't been having those type of problems then you should be OK. Gas can only escape past the shaft when the engine is off. This means that fuel is getting out of the bowl and into the jets. This usually means old dry/shrunk gaskets. A ribuild kit is WAY cheaper than a replacement carb. Go for it.
