Modified vs Original

I need help choosing. Should I put in a 300 I6 or rebuild the original Mercury Flathead. The flathead isn't seized but the owner wanted the engine to rebuild so he has stuff to do when he gets older. I would give him my other flathead but it is seized. I'd take the three speed of the seized one and use it instead of the spur 4spd. I don't have the 300 I6 but would put a automatic behind it. I'm still doing the twin-I-beam suspension. If I go original I don't need the engine crossmember and don't need to move the trans mount either.

Don't the twin beam suspention come with a huge and thick crossmember? That may interfere with your flathead engine mounts anyway. I say go with the I6 if you want to drive it alot and soon, getting an origional flathead together can take a long time, although the flathead would be kool and sound like nothing else.

I chickening out of the twin I beam suspension. I'm just going to use just the spindles. The twin I beam doesn't need to the crossmember t work. The owner going to rebuild the engine and I'm going to buy it from him.
