guys i am wondering what your views are on putting an 8ft fisher on an 01 f350 crew cab 8ft bed with a 7.3 powerstroke all the plow dealers tell me thay wont put one on somthing about the truck being to long the reason being is i an buing a new home and it has a 200 foot drive way all the plow will be used for is that and other family drive ways thats it is there really an issue and does anyone have the same setup
Does the truck have the plow package? I'm having an 8ft Curtis put on my 2006 CC next Thursday. It's not even an issue. Mine came with the plow package, I assume because they plannned on the buyer putting one on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at Curtis plows. I had Fisher, it's a great unit, but they do not compare to Curtis in features/engineering in my opinion. The hook up on the Curtis is really awesome. Get a demo, seriously. Hydraullic, automatic retracting foot to hold the plow in position at the right height for you to hook up. You don't have to be dead-on to allign/ hook up either. I'm assuming the durability is there also - time will tell. Appears very well made. Hurry up - winter is around the corner!!!!!!!!!1
You could,,,,,buy the plow package and install it yourself,,,,I think there is a front axle GVW issue with the CC and the diesel engine, then if you have a cab full of buddys, and something happens,,dealer's dont want to be responsible.
I had a 99' F-350 7.3, S-Cab, same issue, with that truck, but I knew the plow dealer , everything worked fine, and that was with a 9' plow.
you can put one on there, if there isnt a plow package, just beef up the front end and put some timbrens on there. curtis is a good plow, i have a Boss V plow, that is great.
even teh boss straight blades or western ultramounts are awesome. even easier to hook up.
The plow pkg. IIRC, was not available on the CC diesels back then. I think was '05 that they allowed a person to order the plow pkg. with a CC diesel. Like m350 stated, I don't think dealers want to be responsible for things that may or may not happen to your truck if they install a plow that doesn't have the necessary suspension upgrades.
If you go to westerns web page they did have a calculator to enter your front axle gvw and it will calculate and tell you how big of a plow you can place on it, as long as you dont go over the axle gvw they should not have any legal liabilty. even if you beef the suspension up the placard on the door states what you can legally run,not to say you cant safely exceed that just they dont want to be liable. I have a 8'curtis on my short box crew f250 and have no problems, the truck isused for commercial plowing, and a whole lot of it.

I just ran it, the long box & diesel combo stops you dead in your tracks.
As dumb as it sounds the reason plow manufacturers don't recommend plows be installed on diesel crew cabs is because "if" you have a driver and five passengers you will overload the front end. If you got in an accident the plow makers will face a possible lawsuit. Common sense and laywers don't always mix.
That being said your truck can easily handle an 8' plow, you will just have to install it yourself. As stated above, "ballast" (added weight between the wheel well and the tailgate, at least 800lbs.),along with the diesel will make this truck a plow animal. Go for it!
I have a 2002 F250 cc lb V-10 4x4 no plow package and I have been running a 8' fisher stainless steel xblade and I have no problems my drive way is almost a 1000' so that is its main use I plow a few small drive ways and it can be a pain turning around sometimes but not bad once you get use to it. but it will realy push some snow with all the weight behind it. I run about 450lbd of weight in the bed and the truck doesn't even know its there.
If you are not going to do alot of plowing, then maybe look at poly plows. They are available from all the major brands. My boss owns a buss. in which they sell plows and salt spreaders. The best on the market are Boss and Curtis.
Keep in mind most poly plows are heavier than steel plows. I have not had any issues with my 8' and its been on three diesel and one v10 truck all you have to do is find someone to put it on.
Thanks for all the replies and all the info. And to Jake 00 I have been looking into plows for ATV's as I own an Arctic Cat 700 and Arctic Cat 500.Am checking into the Glacier system from Polaris that fits Arctic Cat also. Will let you know how it goes.
