Alright i have a 1955 Ford F100 with a 351 and I am getting a greta deal on a 460 and i need to know if a) will the engine fit or will i have to change the mounts ? b) its a 4 speed and i need to hook it up to a C6 auto, is that possible ? and how much do you think it will cost ? c) would it be worth it ? i know that a 460 wouldnt even give me that much more power, but would it make the truck run better ? Thank you for the help, i really appreciate it
Not sure which 351 (Windsor, Cleveland, Modified) you have but if you are changing engine family to save money, that's rarely a good strategy. The many small items you end up changing with a different engine will quickly consume the money you save on initial purchase. Unless you install a very similar used motor, I would consider fixing what I already had.
Your mounts, as has already been stated, will most definitely have to be changed, but it will fit. As for the transmission, if the 351 you've got in it now is a Windsor or Cleveland, then your C-6 ain't gonna fly. The bellhousing bolt pattern is different. However, if you've got a 351 Modified, then you have the correct transmission. Unless your current motor is dead or on it's last leg, I think that it sounds like an awful lot of trouble.
