I found out Saturday night that my oldest son is going to Iraq. He is an E-5 in the Marines, stationed in Okinawa. I knew if this Middle East war lasted long enough he would have to go again. He was there on the initial push in 2003, but he is in air-defense, and they have not needed his unit there since. He was only there for about two months the first time.
This time will be different. They are now training him for recon. He is at WTI in Yuma as I type. Damn I am scared sh!33less. But I am proud. What a tough kid I raised.
You should be proud of him! What a tough job that has to be. I have 3 nephews over there right now.Just keep the faith as that is all you can do. Tell your son keep up the good work.
He's not fightin for nothin, so tell him to keep his chin up. My prayers go out to you and your son. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that deserves more respect than serving in the US military.
Be very proud of your son for what he is doing. Believe in him and what he is doing. Like Irish said above, nothing deserves more respect than someone who serves their country.
Prayers to you and yours, Smokestone. Hopefully, when all is said and done, the dust clears, the politics gets shoved to the wayside, and Iraq is a free, stable society.....the people over there (and over here) will realize the awesome sacrifices made by American and coalition servicemembers. Every one of them deserves their own statue, as the vast majority have voluntarily joined up AFTER our country has been to war, and knowing where they'll eventually end up (Iraq, Afghanistan........). I hope that your "tough kid" makes it back safe, has lots of kids, and raises more "tough kids" for our country...as this is what our country most needs. God Bless.
With tears in my eyes, thanks guys. (not meant to rhymn)
I talked with a very good friend of mine just last night, who was a Marine in Vietnam. He was in on two tours over there. He was one of those skinny guys that used to go down into the cong rabbit holes with a 45 and scope the tunnel out. He has helped me feel much more at ease, with what my son is doing. Don't get me wrong folks, I am behined our military 100%. I served in the army 4 years, and another 11 years in the national guard.
Damn it just hits ya with a ton of bricks when ya know your son is going to war. F the liberal idea, and may god bless them all!
Your friend was definitely more brave, and most likely, it took nearly 40 years for this country to appreciate his service... I'm very happy that we are smarter than that now. I wish your son and of course all of our troops well, and thanks for all you do, even if it doesn't seem like you do much at all... To all Vietnam vets, I sincerely thank you for your service, the politics don't matter...
I know most of us are just a bunch of pictures and typed words to each other but you know you can always come to FTE for support during the rough times.
Hey guys thanks sooo much. This week has been a long one with me spending a lot of time praying and thinking. Your soft couragous words of support mean a lot to me. I haven't been here long, but now I know why I am here. Thank you!
If your son goes through Kuwait enroute to Iraq, please tell him to find the Navy LNO desk and ask for PS1 Davis. (That Personnel Specialist, for you, bf250. We used to be PN's and DK's, but are all one big happy family now). I can't make any promises, but I will do what I can to make his stay here as comfortable as possible. At the very least, he'll find a friendly face in a strange country.

That--your offer--is totally cool. It's great, we hope he takes you up on it.
God bless you all and may we prevail in our endeavors...
