I have a 78 f250 4x4. I have an intermittent starting problem. Got a new module, GP Sorenson EL107, blue grommet. No spark at all. Got another one. Still no spark. Will start with old module. I could try another brand I guess, but this one only cost about $20. The guy at Advance Auto said he sells a lot of these for Ford trucks with no problem. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Welcome to FTE the information source for FoMoCo Trucks
Being a Fan of Motorcraft instead of Aftermarket fits all parts I would tell you it's the module he gave you and not the truck you are trying to put it in.
There are a lot of FoMoCo trucks using several different Ign Modules. Your 78 should have a Duraspark II Blue Stripe Module. If that's what you had and what it starts on if you plug it in, that tells the story for me. After a few trips and a lot of BS the $20 doesn't look like a good deal to me.
Get a Motorcraft Module for your Duraspark equipped truck & be done with it.
No Thanx to "Advance" Doog, just in case the "Thanks In Advance" was a "pun", But you're welcome in FoMoCo either/any way and welcome to FTE again.

thanks for the quick reply. by the way there was no pun intended. I realized after I posted it could be taken that way. After I posted I remembered the previous owner gave me a spare used module, Echlin. I just plugged it in and it works! yea. thanks again.
Look for a used Mototcraft module in both cars and trucks in the junkyard and have it tested at the parts store. Install the ignition modules 1/4" off the fender with spacers to let cooling air get to the bottom of the module.
