6.0 Hesitation Underload

I have a 04 6.0 250 Super Duty. Recently I went a little over on an oil change and it started hesitating at about 2000rpm but only on the highway between 100KM/h and 110km/h.

I changed the oil and filter and it helped a bit, then change fuel filter and helped a bit more as now it only does it when towing under load.

It almost sounds like your going over a rumble strip as it will hesitate with no power momentarily and several times in a ten second period, but then stops when you speed up of slow down.

Any thoughts?

do you have a torque shift? If so, ever had it serviced? Almost sounds like the lockup shudder that we all know and love.

Torque Shift

Thanks for the reply Vloney, sorry I am an idiot end user, but what is torque shift and how do I know I have one, do you mean the tow/haul button because it doesn't matter if it's on or off, still acts the same. If the book tells if I have a torque shift I'll look when I get home.

Lockup Shudder, is this the cronic early 04 problems you're talking about? Has there been previous threads I can look up?

Anyways wanted to learn more before I went to the dealer...plus would have to take loaded trailer to demonstrate problem -- not sure if horses wanted to wait at the dealer while they look at truck.

Torque shift is the automatic trans. The lockup I'm referring to is your torque convertor. Its engineered to "lockup" at a certain speed/load to improve mileage. It removes slippage from between the engine and trans. Its very sensitive to quality of trans fluid. Under no load, just normal driving ,it usually shows around 45-50 mph.

Dont know how many miles you have on it, but you might consider getting it serviced. Be prepared however for expense, the mercon sp is not cheap! Dont let anyone talk you in to using anything else tho.
