i just bought a pair or driving/fog lights from autozone. i want to wire them up to my headlights. like a factory set up. fog lights on while on low beam and off while on high beam. can someone tell me how to do this. it's on an 89f150. these lights will be going in/behind the grill. thanks
that diagram is to wire them up alone. i will draw up a diagram of what i ahve in mind. let me know if it'll work. prob take a few days to get around to it, but i'll get it up here eventually.

That diagram is correct, look at it a little closer. The wire to the coil side of the relay is from the low beam wire to the head lights. When the low beams are on power flows to the coil closing the relay and turning on the fog lights. He just included a switch in the circuit so you could turn the fog lamps off while the head lights were on if you needed to.
so the four prongs on teh relay would be, ground, to accesory, to power, and to low beam wire. a switch could go between the low beam wire and the relay if i wanted that option. is that correct? thanks
Yes. Here's a picture of the most common relay they sell. I think Walmart even sells it. Some of them will not have the 87a terminal, but you don't need it.

Does the 87 and 87a operate at the same time, when the relay is activated?

No, when the relay coil is energized it moves the switch to close the normally open 87 contact completing this circuit. (and it opens the normally closed 87a contact).
Hook up to the 87 contact to be safe. (in some relays the 87 & 87a contacts are electrically connected together inside the relay at all times, there would be a slightly different picture on the top of the relay then the one posted above.)
Here's a diagram. The hardest part will be finding the lowbeam wire coming out of the steering column. It should be a red wire with a black stripe.
so this red wire with black stripe is coming out of the steering column? wouldn't it be coming outta where the headlight switch is? just take off the panel and look? will it be obvious or covered?

Nope. I am assuming your dimmer switch is in the steering column. If not it's on the floorboard. There is only one wire for the headlights coming out of the headlight switch. It travels up to the dimmer switch, and the dimmer switch selects lowbeam or highbeam.
There should be a bunch of wires coming out of the bottom of the steering column. See if you can find that correct colored wire. To make sure you can get a meter or testlight and see if it has power only when the headlight switch is on, and the dimmer switch is in lowbeam position.
my switch which changes the beam from low to high and vice versa is on the floor. it's alittle push button on teh floor. is that where i will find my wire?
