well i went to the shop, dumb me didnt write down the code he pulled, but he had some snap-on code reader, and it said that my clutches were slipping. well he talked about a rebuild costing $2200. or to do some aftermarket parts including tax it would be $3300, getting a inline tranny fluid filter, additional tranny cooler, aftermarket vavle body, a dual disc dacco T/C with billet plate, raybestos clutches. like a whole over haul, sorry im no transmission guy, but thats what i could remember. and i could have the truck in monday and out thursday, sound good? i know its not BTS, but let me hear some thoughts?
If you are getting it for a grand, I could see it but for tht much, why would I want a no name brand vs a BTS? Is his warranty going to be as good as a BTS?
well how quick could BTS get a tranny and T/C out to me? has anyone els had theres shipped to them and installed by a local shop?
the guy was warrentying his stuff for a year, nationwide.
what? is dacco and raybestos not name brand? with B&M billet T/C cover?
They got mine within a week and a half from the time I hung up to the day I got the trans.
They have a 2 yr written warranty which is more than generous considering that they don't rule you out when they feel you are racing or doing anything but straight driving. Also after that, they will take care of it for a few bucks.
Not a fan of B&M TCs. Used them, returned them in the past.
what setup did u get? if u dont mind me asking, how much ur tranny cost with T/C from BTS? its just that i need the truck to get to work and back, also ill be driving with a group of freinds on nov.18th.
Dacco tc's are good for stock apps., You can special order for performance apps., which is what it sounds like you would be getting. I am not familiar with the BTS tranny, but a piece of advice, check with the local, REPUTABLE tranny shop and see if they will install the tranny for you. Some shop are kinda funny about doing r&r if you do not buy from them. This would only apply if you are not doing the r&r yourself. The other thing to think about is flushing or replacing the cooler. I have stated this before, but I can not say this enough.
ya the guy at the shop i went to today was telling me that he would be flushing out everything, and installing an additional cooler that goes infront of all the other radiators up front. as well as install an inline tranny fluid filter. aftermarket pump, everything. he said he will call me up so i can come down to the shop to see my tranny in pieces, go threw and see what aftermarket parts i can use. but will total up to around $3k, that or i just go with an all stock rebuild for $2200.
Not sure on the raybestos stuff, but the best clutches are Eagle Redline and best steels are Koelene. Both of which BTS and Suncoast use in their rebuilds. I would recommend checking another shop. The shop I was working with was going to use both the products mentioned above as well as installing transgo shift reprogramming kit for 2200. Its all up to you, but for 3K, I'd still shop around. Especially when you can get a BTS or ATS or Suncoast for not much more that is by far more reputable.

Well, reputable is one thing. BTS has a 2 yr warranty. Also, he SAW JTHARVEY racing when he was in the stands and still took care of him. There are people who have been taken care of AFTER their 2 yr warranty is up for a few hundred bucks. TC is over $1000 to begin with. Now, if I got a Ford rebild for 3yr 36K and they service manager knew I was racing, where would he stand as far as warranty work. The question you want to ask is whether this guy will stand behind his product or say "You abused it" or "you were racing" so no warranty.
man you guys arent making this easy for me. i want BTS, but my goodness, another 1500 all said and done for the BTS. believe me i know its worth it and im sure ill wish i went this direction. well i gues ill see what tomarow and monday brings. i have a freind whos got a freind that may be able to do the BTS tranny install for me. well see what happens. the $3300 is going to be hard for me to come up with, for what the local shop is qaoting me at, and is possibly the only bit ill be able to fork out. but thanks everyone for the advice.
the hardest part about removing the tranny is getting to the top bolt of the housing that is right behind the turbo. I finally gave up and removed the turbo to get to the bolt. Someone else might know how to get the top bolts off, probably requires certian tools that I did not have. Other than that, a tranny jact some jack stands and probably 8 hours and you could do it yourself. Probably 4 hours if you know what you are doing, less than that if you have done a few I am sure.
If you have an extension in the range of 2-3 feet, you can get right at those bolts. It is really easy on the 99 and newer PSD's, 95 up to 99 is a little more difficult because of the exhaust placement. I have pulled these trannies many times and with a hoist about a half an hour to 45 min. it can be out.

Brian...
Well, I know how it is. A few months after forking out money for the truck, it breaks and you have no choice but to fix it. I am so happy with my BTS, I can't say enough about how good it is and how Brian answers my questions even after the sale.
well, best to my memory, and i have the broken part along with some other stuff from the shop, (the hub that holds 2cd, and overdrive, the snapring on it came off because half the alluminum around the rim that holds the snap ring was completely gone. the clutches looked ok, there was a lot of metal filings on the pan magnet. i have some pictures, will try and post them later. but ya, i just have this guy rebuilding it right now. adding larger cooler, addtional inline filter, and a dacco dual disc converter, flushing the system. should be done today or tomarow. but i needed it fixed quickly, next time ill go with BTS, and i need to work on paying the truck off, so this tranny expens kinda sucked, but owell. such as buying used... so as long as this last me for the next 5 - 10 years ill be happy.
