Replaced the one on my `87 F250 C6 diesel about 6 months ago. If you have the new replacement kit it explains a lot ( about $23.00 as I remember. ). You have to remove the surround fron the Inst. cluster and the cowling from round the lower part of the steering column just in front of the dash. Then remove the screws holding the inst cluster in. Ease the cluster forward and you get access to the two screws holding on the trans indicator. You can remove this without having the inst cluster fully removed. Getting the new one in is akward but doable. There is a sloted screw fixing at the other end of the cable that enables you to set the indicator pointer exactly right. Hope this helps.

I know this thread is old, but having trouble finding any info on this "kit" to fix the shift indicator. My cable is broken on mine -- will this fix it? Where do I get it?

Thanks!

Thanks!

In the kit you get a new "window" with the red pointer and with the new cable connected to it. Click on DirectFordParts in the list of sponsors and fill in the order page. I got one that way, about $23.00 if I remember right. Just ask for the tranmission shift indicator assembly.

Thanks -- I'll give it a shot. One final question -- is this the entire assembly, where I will have to specify what tranny gear pattern) I havem, or do I take apart mine once I get it and use this to fix it?

Other than the fixing screws you do not reuse anything from the old unit. Tell the parts guy you have a C6 trans. and if you have tilt steering and the new part comes ready to install.

That sounds great -- exactly what I'm looking for. I have an AOD in mine, but I assume they will have the part. Hopefully.

Thanks!

Ordered it today. Nobody wanted to give me a discount, had to pay list price of about $38 or so - OUCH - but it will be worth it.

Thanks again guys.

As a note to anyone searching.

I couldn't find the part in any of the online stores including diagrams, and that's why I ordered it from the dealer.

The part number for an AOD indicator is E7TZ7A110D and it can be bought for about $25 online. Live and learn...

I'll update this again once I install the part if I run into any snags, but looks pretty straightforward from this point on.
