Hi, I HAVE THE 1992 FOR F-250, IT IS THE 351 WITH THE 5.8L, I AM A FORD MAN FOR SURE BUT I AM HAVING SOME ISSUES. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTYTHING i CAN IMAGINE TO GET MY FIRING ORDER CORRECT. i KNOW IT IS, 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. BUT, WHERE DO I START NUMBER 1 AT ON THE DISTRIBUTER AND WHICH PLUG IS 1, WHICH PLUG IS NUMBER 2, WHICH PLUG IS NUMBER 3, ETC, ETC, ETC. mY uNCLE SAYS IT HAS TO BE DONE BY FIRST SAYING THE NUMBER ONE PLUG IS THE CLOSEST TO THE RADIATOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, NUMBER 2 IS THE CLOSEST TO THE RADIATOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, NUMBER 3 IS THE SECOND ONE BEHIND THE RADIATOR ON THE PASSENDGER SIDE AND SO FOURTH. a PICTUE OF THIS WHOLE THING WOULD BE AMAZING.
If the picture did not go through, then the fireing order is: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
The distributer rotation is: Counterclockwise
Here is the weird part: Ford is numbering the cylinders at #1: passenger front (looking at the front of the truck. #'s 2,3,4, are all on the passenger side. # 5 is the driver's front and 6,7,8, are all on the driver's side. When I bought my new cap (1991 F-350 with a 351), it had #1 stamped in the cap. If yours does not, then I will describe it the best I can. The cap should only clip on one way. Going from the clip that should be facing the driver's front: counterclockwise, you have: 4-8-1-3-clip-7-2-6-5. I hope this helps, gr
thankx alot, I have owned ford trucks all my life. I have never really got into restoring what I consider to be the ultimate hunting, fishing and ultimate fun truck as much as I have this one. I definetely know where to come now if I have any questions. I will post pictures of my truck as I progress if I can? Thanks so much, By the way, my name is Jeff and I am from the heart of the Appalachian Mountains so my trucks are always pushed to the limits and have always outperformed everything else on the market and always done it with convincing fashion!!!!
Easiest way to figure out where number one is on the distributor is to get the number one piston up to tdc. To do this, you un bolt the number one spark plug from the cylinder. Cover the hole with your finger and have someone slowly bump the engine over until you hear the air pushing past your finger. You are now close to the compression cycle of number one and you can look under the cap of the distributor to find where the rotor is pointed. That will be your number one cylinder lug. The caps sometimes come with 1 marked on the cap, but if the distributor has been out of the truck before sometimes mechanics reset the number one lug to a different lug on the cap.
