The were some pieces that looked like a plastic gear that crumbled inside the T-case. There isnt any plastic gears in there are there? It almost looks like hardened grease or something.
I had to cut the exhaust due to a poor routing job done by the previous owner which is OK cause I wouldnt mind replacing anyway. I will have to get the Tranny out tomorrow.
Exhaust will flow better.
Think safety first, I've have heard of people breaking fingers and getting nasty cuts. Be very carefull, try to get someone to help you, at least remove the transmission, if possible. One to work the jack, the other to work the transmission. Will need to place jack at the drain hole on trans and some one need to balance trans. Pull the transmission away from engine then need to lower and pull back at the same time. The bellhousing will want to hit the frame and might want to tip over. If this happens stop the lowering of the jack and recenter.
I posted some pics in my gallery of the Operation. There Are 2 pics of what I think is hardened grease. There just isnt enough of it to be a full gear and it crumbles apart. I dont think it is anything to worry about. Ive looked at alot of Rebuild kits and I dont see anything it could be. The shaft coming out of the Tranny is ok and these pieces were way in the input of the T-case. I just cant believe that it would be anything important.
OK. Things went great today. Tranny came out No problem. My worry is now that that fly wheel doesnt look too bad but there is some definite chunks missing so it does need to be replaced. Guess Ill find out when everything is done. As far as the clutch goes I think Ill stick with whats there as there was no play in the pedal before and I had no slippage. What should I be looking for? It looks like someone had all this out at one time as alot of the hardware looks to be stripped so all new stuff will go in.If anyone can tell me about the pics I posted it would be helpful. Id like to know if I should think about tearing into that T-case. Id rather not right now if I dont have to as its gonna be a cold cold reinstall otherwise.
Pictures were a bit fuzzy. I have never seen anything like that part "hardened grease". I thinking maybe a piece of the casting or some type of sealing compound. Spin the rear output shaft on transfercase and verify it is spins normally. Then if things spins normal the it should fine.
Inspect the ring gear on flywheel. The ring gear of the flywheel can be replaced, the old ring need to cut or air chieseled out. The new will need to be heated up and slipped on. About one month ago I priced out a complete flywheel and they were going for $85.00.

T-case seemd to spin fine when I was messin with it after I had dropped it. I do have a new ring gear. Just need to get it pressed on or do the old heat trick. Sucks pullin all this out only to see that I should just keep going. What a never ending battle. Think Ill replace the clutch also. Can the Flywheel be turned to smooth it out? Seems like the contact point for the clutch is starting to get cracked.
If the flywheel need to be resurfaced, or the clutch disk or clutch pressure plate, have crackes or show heat marks, then it best to replace with a clutch kit, and resurface the flywheel. Replace the pilot bearing too.
The flywheel can be resurfaced (turned or trued), not all auto parts store do the resurfacing of flywheel, might need to call around town.

Thanks for asking. Gonna attack it tonight. I just got the flywheel back yesterday and got a pilot tool last night. Got a new clutch kit the other day also. I just need to get the new ring gear on and Im golden. The only thing I can I can see having problems with is the pilot bearing but it seems easy enough so hopefully it will go ok. Snow is comin so its got to get done!!
