the selenoid is a dealer only item. The only place to get a new one is the dealer. If you go to a parts store sometimes they can get stuff from the dealer cheaper than it costs to go to the dealer.
It is not a dealer only item. You can get them aftermarket threw Cottmen and other tranny places. You can get one that has a 3rd gear TC lock up delay.
I stand corrected. Sorry. After looking and looking at the parts store I work at I didn't find one. I looked at our transmission catalogues but didn't locate one. Sorry for the misdirection.
I have a 120,000 mile plus on the Tansmission, it has started to shirt irradically, and the code calls out a pressure switch failure for 1st gear in the soleniod pack. I'm just looking for other options for parts other than Ford.
BKB--- Any info on the lockup delay pack you mentioned? I have 93 5.8 Bronco w/E4OD. I had to replace the TC because of slippage (overheated and blew fluid out front seal). Replaced it with one rated for E350 ambulance (dont ask why ) and stall is too high for my driving. Would actually like early first gear lockup, either that or manual control. I have the EVTM and have designed a switch w/resistors to keep from kicking a soft code that would be manual control.
The solenoid pack is not going to help you any. It is more for f-250=350 trucks with the E4OD. In there shift stratage they shift into 3rd with the torque converter locked. The aftermarket pack has a built in delay so the shift into 3rd is unlocked for 3-5 seconds then it locks the TC. I was told Ford did this for better MPG, it makes the truck feel like it missed a gear and went straight for OD. If your bronco is MASS AIR then i think the shift stradage should go into 3rd unlocked then lock the TC a little later, i might be wrong but im pretty sure that is the way it is in my friends 96. The chapest way to have control over your trans is with a EEC-Tuner of Tweeker. I pick up the Tuners for about $150.00 used and you can change just about anything you want depending of what EEC you have.
Did your friend have the same issue I have with note shifting out of 1st gear until 30 mph? I'm showing a code for bad soliniod, and you think that this could be false? I do some more checking before buying a pack. Thanks
The 93 Bronco is a speed density system. I am not sure about the 94's, but I think that by 95 they were MAF. My 93 in definately an E4OD (I put a shift kit in it ~ 35K and had to do the converter ~100K---by myself!). The shift strategy for the converter seems to be MPH controlled. It will lock at ~45 MPG regardless of where your foot is. Kinda a pain when you are trying to merge the interstate on a fast on-ramp with your foot 6 inches below the floorboard The shift kit did not change that problem. I'm thinking the cheapest, easiest way is to put a switch to control the lockup solenoid. Resistors should keep from kicking a soft code.
Hey guys, Anyone know what this issue is? My E4 ( i hate em personally ) Starts off in second gear, even when dropped in first, I hafta manually shift up to 3rd when the revs are just right. If i put in drive, it starts in 3rd. OD still works tho. Im thinkin my solenoid packs maybe? This is my first truck with the e4 still in it, I usually just ripem out and drop in a manual.
Before spending big bux on the tranny, you should check the MLPS. Its at the shift lever on the tranny. It contains a series of resistors that tell the PCM what gear is selected on the column. The shift lever does not move any internal pistons etc inside the tranny like, for example, the C6, its all electrical. The MLPS goes bad sometimes or could be simply out of adjustment. I believe they are "adjusted" very similar to a manual tranny shifter, to align the shift arms (I have never had to adjust or replace one).
I personally like the E4OD------mine has been great especially after that Baumann shift kit years ago. If you think just the E4's are sometimes trouble, let me tell you about the time a band in my C6 (76 460 van) got cocked and chewed into the drum which created a lot of fine metal shavings which I had to attempt to clean out after repairing. The OD auto trannys are what detroit should have done YEARS ago. If you want real trouble, just jump into a manual tranny change from one that was an automatic---been there, done that .
I have a 95 bornco originally it came with a 302. I swapped it with a 351 out of a 93, transmission and all, I also swapped out the sterring column. I didn't swap and transmissison computer, did I need to?
