[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Nov-02 AT 09:39 AM (EST)]I also have a 59. 9.5's on the front, too? Hmmm???? The back shouldn't be a problem, but I'd have them test-fit first.
Presently, I have 255/70X15's on the corners. I had my leaf springs de-arched so there is about 1" of clearance between the top of the tire and the wheel wells.I have, however, asked the local aftermarket tire shops about 17" and 18" conversions. They all unanimously said that it shouldn't be a problem to put either size rim on, but without actully test-fitting, the profile of the tire "could" vary depending on how rough or how "cushy" you want the ride.
I haven't done the change yet, and not sure I ever will. With stock suspension and 70's, it STILL rides pretty rough, so lower profile tires wouldn't help much (though they'd look great!).
Bottom line: have a tire place test fit them or something equivalent first. It'd be worth the $ to know in advance.
You would have to swap out the hubs also, the 97 and up wheels center on the hub and not the bolts. The lug nuts just hold the wheels on, and do not center them. Ford calls it "hub centric".The new nuts are a clamp type, not cone shaped.
Yeah they wont fit. The old truck uses a 5 on 5 1/2 inch pattern(correct me if I'm wrong) the newer trucks 97-up use 5 on 135mm bolt pattern. I'm not sure if pre-96 trucks use the old bolt(5 5 1/2)but they for sure do not use the 97-up pattern or not. If they do use the old ford bolt pattern then I'm pretty sure they make or have at least seen new lightning wheels on one. Hope this helps will look up for you and will try to get back. Also if you can provide a sideshot of your truck I have photoshop 7.0 and will gladly put the rims on the truck. P.S the picture has to be fairly large anyway I'll try my best with what I got.
