1960 V.I.N.
i Just bought a 1960 f100 4x4 with a reassigned (Texas) V.I.N. on the door post, did Ford stamp a vin on the frame? Trying to find out if this truck is a salvage yard nightmare!!!! Thanks again for any help.

For 1960, Ford put the rating plate on the inside of the glovebox door. It is also stamped on the frame as well. If your plate is on the door post, chances are the cab or at least the rating plate are not original.
If you post your rating plate info, I can de-code it for you.
I hope this helps.

This is the way they appear on the tag, also do you have a location for the frame stamp of the vin?
Thanks again, Artman. FTE is the best!!
Here's your vin de-coded.........
F10 ........ 1/2 ton Conventional
C .......... 292 V-8
9 .......... 1959 Model year
K .......... Kansas City assembly plant
40164 ...... Sequential production number
28865 ..... Need more info on this. Was it samped on the rating plate? You mentioned this was a re-assigned vin. from Texas, so was this a rating plate installed by the state?
The frame vin should be stamped on the top of the frame rail. I believe it is on the driver's side near the steering box.
Your truck is most likely a factory 4x4, but unfortunately only the Model number on the original rating plate can tell you for sure.
If your seat is original, check underneath. the original build sheet may still be there tucked in the springs.
I hope this helps you.

Curious, the title says 1960 model year, how much difference between the two are there? Also I dont have the radius arms on the front , is this normal?
You Are a lifesaver Thanks, Matt
There are no radius arms on the 1959 or 1960 4x4, so your's is normal.

Not much difference in appearance between the '59 and '60. Just the grille, the front lower valance, Hoodside emblems, and the very front of the hood.
Does your truck have a grille and hood like mine? or the "dog bone" shaped grille with the lower grille attached to it?
The 5th Character of the vin designates the model year. "9" = 1959, and "0" = 1960.
I have seen 1960 model year trucks titled as 1959's before. Because the early '60 models were actually built in 1959, certain states made you title the truck that way. I've never seen it the other way around though.
Could be that the previous owner used a number from another truck, or a DMV mistake maybe. The best place to start investigating would be to find that serial number on the frame and compare to the tag.
Here's is some extra info that might help you in the meantime. If your truck is a factory 4x4, this is what you have in it.......
Spicer (Dana) 44-4f Front axle (3.92 gear ratio)
Ford 9" rear axle (3.89 gear ratio)
Spicer (Dana) 24 transfer case (Low range = 1.86 gear ratio / High range = 1.00 to 1 gear ratio)
118" wheelbase
I hope this helps.
