can anyone help me with this...my 1986 b2 rearend is gone and here in coeur d alene id it is hard to find one...i need the entire rear end hsing due to the fact that my rearend carrier cap is broke..is the there a ranger or explorer rear end that will bolt in...mine has 3.73 gear ratio...any help greatly appreciated
basically a rear end from a bII or ranger will bolt right in, the exlporer rear is different and can fit with modifications. if i was you, i would look for a rear from a 90-on ranger with a 3.0 or 4.0 in it. these came with 8.8 rears and are stronger than the 7.5 that you have now. just read the tag and it will tell you the ratio.
cuz you need to keep it the same as the front gearing in order to use 4 wheel drive..if the gears in the rear are different from the front then things wont work together then things start breaking. But if you don't use or have 4 wheel drive then get whatever you want.
thank you all who have responded...but luckily we were able to to find a used rearend in the southern part of the state...but i will pass this info to my mechanic...maybe it will save someone else the headache...thanks once again
try pull and save auto parts in spokane it's not to far from you and the prices are cheap and they have a lot of b2s and rangers

The B2 Rearends are different from the rangers are they not? I sold my friend the rear out of a B2 I had and it didnt fit in his ranger because the pad spacing was different between the two.
BII and ranger share the same axles, the front and rear axles are the same for both, as with goes, there is difference in a d28 and d35, but both axles will bolt in the same location as will the 7.5 rear and 8.8, same for both models. its the explorer thats different, mounts and with is different. but you can mod a exp axle to mount up. just be a lil bit wider.
Well I knew the explorer axle is different because the spring pads are on the bottom for a "spring under" type mount and there is no shock mounts on the axle itself, though its not hard to use a flip type kit and weld shock mounts on it, because the pad width is the same as a ranger. But im trying to figure out why my friend could not get the b2 axle in his ranger, he wouldnt have hauled the thing out from under the truck and brought it 20miles back to my house to get a ranger rearend that just bolted right in. Ill have to get a tape out tomorrow and measure the pad width on both the b2 and ranger.
im not sure why your friend is having issues. i have swaped a 7.5 rears from BII with 8.8s from rangers and only issue was drive shaft length and yoke universal size.
