Tranny Problem?

I just replaced the 4100 tranny in my 99' 7.3 F350, which is the third tranny in 145,000 miles. (At least Ford now warrants the tranny for 75,000, which means they get to replace the next one on their dime if it doesn't last any longer than the first two!) I have never had a problem with this motor and suspect the problem described below is the new torque converter/tranny. What do you folks think?

The truck runs fine and then once in a while the truck acts like it has a manual transmission. The truck wants to continue forward as you slow to a stop and apply the brake. It takes a good amount of pressure on the brake to make it stop, and if you do, the rpms drop to 500 or so and it stalls and surges forward with one last gasp. Acts just like a truck would if your kid was learning to drive a stick and forgot to push in the clutch.

It is going into Ford tomorrow but who knows if they can figure it out. Any suggestions I might share with the service department? Thanks.

Sounds like TCC is is staying applied, normally TCC should come off around 1200 rpm when coming to a stop. If the torque conv clutch stays applied at too low of an rpm the engine will buck and want to stall.

I agree, sounds like TCC is staying locked or partially locked. Definately problem in tranny, could be when they slapped the new TC in, they damaged the sealing rings and it is leaking fluid to lock the TC.

Report on tranny repair

Have not picked the truck up yet but Ford advised today that tranny is fixed. Apparently the front pump spline failed?, resulting in disruption of fluid, which ruined torque converter and misc. other parts. Obviously discouraging that a remanufactured Ford tranny lasted only 1500 miles before failing. Hope they fixed it! Thanks for your input.
