OHH boy.
went to co-op to get a pallet of lime for my dad when i put my truck in park it started to make a very weird noise. Its comming from the tranny i think... it sounds like there is a rock In by the TC is the best way i can explaine it. its like a rattle/grind/ i dunno how to explain the noise.
it does it when the truck is at idle. if i touch the gas pedal it goes away. if i put the truck in gear and start to move it goes away. and the truck shifts fine and does not feel like it is slipping and is not acting weird in any way. i checked the fluid it looks good and was cool to the touch. looked a little dark but nothing to worry about.
so what the heck could be going wrong with it now?
thanks guys
Mitch
just pull the inspection cover and use a flat screw driver to turn it over to look at the flexplate. could also have loose nuts. look for any rust bleed. also could be the fins inside the coverter loosening up. the fins have bent over tabs that attach each end. they loosen up sometimes and rattle.
i recently replaced a TC in a superduty that made a noise all the time until the coverter locked up. One of the tranny shops we deal with told us it has a torrington bearing in there that goes bad. But you said the noise is only there when idling in park so i doubt thats the deal.
What is a flex plate? and how much are they?
and if the bolts came loose can i tighted them from the inspection cover if i take that off?
thanks for the help guys.
Mitch
