I can... my only fear is that if this PCM is toast due to a short I'd be crapping out another PCM. Maybe I can buy one from a junkyard, test it in a good truck, THEN try it in the dead horse?
No, I meant try putting the suspect one in a good truck. I don't think it can hurt it due to the voltage it works with and if it is dead, you'll likely just confirm that. At least I don't think it can hurt it. Anyone else?
I agree with your thoughts about the other way around, but it may or may not be the PCM so why buy another and have the same situation if you don't have to?

I'm not 100%, but if both are autos then the only main differences between them might be a HP rating that resulted from a tweak to the computer software. A basic HP tune if you will so I would think you could at least check the PCM. Obviously if the harness will not fit it is a no go right there.
Have you looked inside the steering column? I'm wondering if the infamous chafed wiring issue killed it.
That is certainly POOSIBLE, and if changing these out doesn't do it then I WILL check that. HOWEVER, I think if that were the case, something-ANYTHING else might not be working too, no? I mean everything else right down to the door chime works!

Tom, do you need the procedure for the removal of the steering wheel so as not to eat the bag? Yeah, it is great. 80 caution statements and then disconnect the batteries and drain all residuals. Next,
Remove the driver air bag module.
Remove the two back cover plugs.
Remove the bolts.
Disconnect the horn electrical connector.
Disconnect the air bag electrical connector.
Remove the driver air bag module.
I'm feeling cozy about that too, along with the stay outta the way, don't lay down wrong side up etc statements. Better not even look at it wrong and definately make sure your taxes are up to date, never know.

ROFL, yup,you got my drift on that! They forget to mention not using your cell phone near it as well...
Thanks for the info, tho... put all MY worries to rest!
Air bags aren't that bad you just have to follow the disarming procedures exactly.
Make sure NO power exist in the vehicle, disconnect batts, drain PCM KAM (Turn head lights on after disconnecting Batts). Just for good measure you can ground the vehicle breifly to discharge any static (Chain hanging from hitch).
NEVER NEVER sit in the driver seat while working on it.
Thanks... also good advice! It's not so much Im afraid of it.... OK maybe it is. no, seriously, I just think it's funny that the supposedly SAFEST part of a vehicle can be the most hazardous!
