I have an 83 f150.
I think I need a new Bench seat.
Any ideas on how to tell if I can just rebuild this one, or if a new one is in fact needed.
Also If a new one is needed, what year bolt patterns would match my 83??
Any and All helpful comments and suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks
For how cheap plain old benches can be had for, it's not worth it to rework yours unless you just LOVE upholstery work.
Any seat from a 1980-1996 F-series or bronco and up to 1997 F250/350 will bolt right in to your truck. If you decide to get fancy and use bronco buckets or something like that you'll have to drill a couple of holes, but the floor pan shape is the same.
Can't really tell you exactly where, but ask around. I sold one about 2 weeks ago for $20 and had one given to me about a year ago (it's in my truck right now).
Low back benches aren't exactly in the highest of demand, most people just start shoving towels down in them to puff the drivers seat back up.
Talk to a seat cover shop, and ask what they could cheaply do. Winter's a kinda dead time for interior shops, so you might beable to snag a deal.
IF your seat's in good shape, except the springs are worn or whatever (big guy own it before u?), it might be worth fixing it... but more likely, it's not, and you can get one out of any junkyard. I'd get a newer one, that's the same color, but it's your truck
O, BTW, they make a cool place to sit in the garage, if you weld some brackets to the seat tabs, and mount it to a peice of plywood with some wheels on it... I did that with a seat out of a 90's camaro that got... Dismantaled... in auto last year. Wish I'd gotten a bench seat, but you cant argue with free... And I got a peice of the floor, and some carpet... Melted carpet It got oxy'd out
When I bought my Supercab in '83, it didn't take me long to realize that the bench seat in my truck had more padding than my neighbor's standard cab....both 83s and both XLTs...go figure.
Thanks a bunch guys. I was planning to post a question in regards to what years would bolt in without having to make and drastic changes, and now I know. Thanks again !!!
also chances are if you can't find the bench in a junk yard and if your cover is in good shape you could get new foam from lmc and a set of hog rings and redo it yourself. it is very straight forward and easy to do if the foam is in bad shape and not the springs
These seats are held up by long rods and wires, they rust out or just break, the springs are short and only hook around the outside of the framework, In my old plow the frame even cracked and I had to weld it. Look for another seat at you local junk yard and put your upholstery on it. I put the back of my seat on a good bottom and changed the upholstery, it was very easy to do.
